     In the spring of 1939, war is raging throughout much of the world. America is little affected, remaining impassive while lending monetary support to its allies.  Raised by a faithful Catholic mother and a strict military father, sixteen-year-old Meredith Gannon is protected from talks of war. Her life is a portrait of family, school, and faith. Awarded a two-year scholarship to St. Mary’s Academy, a prestigious Catholic school in Leavenworth, Kansas, her only focus is to be the first in her family to graduate with honors.

     Meredith’s heart shifts in a new direction when she meets and falls in love with Private Mitchell (Mitch) Easton, a soldier on tour at Fort Leavenworth. Her ambition to graduate is a million miles away. Against her parents’ wishes, Meredith and Mitch marry. Their love is soon tested when war hits their homeland.
